Daffodils

Daffodils are perhaps the most famous harbinger of spring. When these yellow flowers start to bloom, people all over the world get anxious for the start of a new season.

It would be a mistake, however, to assume that all daffodils are yellow. There are many beautiful white, salmon and even green daffodils. Most daffodils find their origin in the Mediterranean area, but they are popular around the world. The daffodil is the national flower of Wales, but it is also a national flower symbolising the new year in Iran. Daffodils were already used in ancient Egypt and they have been used for centuries in China. The Dutch daffodil growers are responsible for producing over a thousand different varieties of daffodils that are sold all over the world.
